On October 29th, the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA) will be conducting a statewide “Lawyers in Libraries” Day of Service. Pro bono attorneys will provide the public with individual consultations or community education clinics, free of charge, at public libraries in every parish in the state. Though limited in scope, these services can have a great impact in helping people to understand their legal issues and corresponding options.
Attached you will find a flyer with the information on the Plaquemines Parish event which will be held at the Belle Chasse Library, 8442 Highway 23, Belle Chasse, LA from 9:30am to 12:00noon. You can contact the library at 504-394-3570 to schedule an appointment as wait times will vary for walk-in visitors.
The “Lawyers in Libraries” program is part of a growing partnership between the legal aid community and Louisiana public libraries called the Legal Education and Assistance Program (LEAP). This partnership is particularly impactful in areas with fewer services, and helps the public to find local attorneys and resources in each jurisdiction. LEAP also provides public library staff with specialized training and resources for each branch. The LSBA is working with private bar members to schedule recurring “Lawyers in Libraries” events throughout the year.
